Artist: Jordan Gilmour

The very creative, courageous, beautiful and talented performer- Jordan Gilmour is here!

Jordan Gilmour is currently a first year student at QUT studying towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. She works closely with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre and trains regularly with them in the Suzuki Method of Actor Training and Anne Bogart’s The Viewpoints.With this company she has been involved in various productions, including The Red Shoes (Dir. Drew Der Kinderen), The Nightingale and the Rose(Dir. Drew Der Kinderen ), Dreams(Dir. Harriet Devlin & Dale Thorburn) and Vs. Guilt (Dir. Harriet Devlin).She has also worked with UQ’s Underground Productions, performing in their recent production of Closer (dir. Harriet Devlin).

Jordan has recently become interested in the Japanese theatre/dance form of Butohafter doing a month long intensive with Zen Zen Zo. This recent fascination has inspired her to become a part of this project Lightning in a Kettle, in which she hopes to extend her roots of knowledge into the artform of Butoh deeply and honestly.

Jordan is also a musician and composes her own music in her spare time. You will also have the chance to indulge in a selection of her musics during the performance! So, dont miss out!

Artist: Sonia Kwek

Sound Coordinator and Performer:

Sonia Kwek is an emerging theatre practitioner, working across performance and production.
Her practice is focused on devised, ensemble-based performance and layering the theatrical
narrative with a highly physical and sensorial element. Originally from Singapore, she is also
interested in cross-cultural collaboration. She is currently undertaking her final year in the
Bachelor of Creative Industries (Interdisciplinary) at the Queensland University of Technology.

Sonia is currently co-directing Crave: A Takeaway Show as part of the Fresh Blood season by
Vena Cava Productions. As a performer, Sonia has performed in A Practical User’s Guide to
the Afterlife (dir. Drew der Kinderen, Vena Cava Productions & Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre,
2011), INterplay (By Fixate Productions for Capillaries Festival 2011) and Dystopian Dreams
(dir. Melanie Wild, Vena Cava Productions 2010). She has trained with Zen Zen Zo Physical
Theatre since 2010 in the Suzuki Method of Acting, the Viewpoints and Butoh. She also
assisted in production design for The Flu Season (dir. Michelle Miall, Vena Cava Productions
2010). She has worked as an Administration Intern with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre in 2011
and as Events Manager and Capillaries Festival Co-coordinator in 2011 and 2010 respectively
for Vena Cava Productions. She also worked as a production intern for The Necessary Stage in
2009, back in Singapore.

Artist: Nina

We introduce you, the most fantastic, sweetest, prettiest, friendlinest and most talented 

N I N A !

Nina adores Jacaranda’s in spring bloom, relishes the word pâtisserie, and has an unquenchable thirst for theatre and art. She has engaged in various creative endeavours including pantomime, community theatre, playwriting and more recently physical theatre. In 2010, as a performance trainee with Playback Theatre, she was inspired by the art and craft of connecting people through storytelling. Through Zen Zen Zo, one year ago, Nina was seduced by Butoh theatrical dance and has been enchanted ever since. Each day brings an increased yearning to explore Butoh more deeply and share her experiences with audiences. As a trained Yoga teacher she has found a rich complimentary relationship between the spiritual aspects of Yoga and Butoh. Embodying spiritual practice and philosophy is central to her art. Nina is also an active member of her community contributing to various groups, professionally researches community issues, is a travel extraordinaire, and is forever inspired and mystified by her country of birth, Iran.

Merlynn Tong.

MERLYNN TONG is the Marketing Manager for this project. She got tangled in the sheets with marketing and advertising while working as an Ad (wo)Man in Singapore and Japan. She has since followed her bizarre and beautiful lust for theatre and found herself in sunny Queensland where she is currently the Education Manger of Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre and has also just completed the 2012 Performance Internship with the company. Her other performing credits include opening Howard Barker's 20 for 20 international festival with her role of the Prisoner in Wounds to the Face. Her marketing credits include working for brands such as Coca-Cola, L'Oréal, Nestlé and many many more. She has serendipitously married her lust her theatre and penchant for marketing to lend her marketing experience to independent shows in the arts. In this role, she strives for full houses, lots of pledges in Pozible and of course non-starving artists (she would give them a ring encased with the world if she could). Merlynn also loves Butoh, Suzuki Method of Actor Training, The Viewpoints, precious moments of connection with fellow human beings, tea, gorgeous spaces (especially if they serve food) and making dirty jokes. Lightning struck mX today!

Dear supporters,

Lightning is fortunate enough to be featured in mX today! 

Proudly supported by Queensland Rail, Anywhere Festival 2012 has officially launched on Tuesday. We had a chance put on a sneak peak of the performance at Exhibition Station. It was fantastic working with so many amazing performers at the most unexpected place- the train and at Roma St Train Station. Lightning is officially running in the public!

White paint, green umbrella, helium gas balloons, butoh babies dancing... it's all part of the show!

Come join us, for a fantastic 30 mins show at the magical New Farm Park!
